Projects
University of Portsmouth
Due to an imminent building project, the UoP had to relocate their Burnaby Road 11kV Main Intake Substation together with HV and LV cable diversions and also required Southern Electric (DNO) to relocate their HV equipment. Power Services undertook the principal contractor role in managing all aspects of the project dealing with the university, their consultants, the DNO and sub-contractors.
DLO Ensleigh, Bath
Defence Estates via their Prime Contractor, Debut Services South West, required an extension of the 11kV Main Intake Substation to include renewal of the 11kV switchgear, local transformer and LV distribution equipment along with the building works associated with a building extension which doubled the size of the substation and brought about segregation of the site owned and DNO equipment.
Kings College Hospital, London
Due to increased load requirements, the Trust needed to instal a new 11kV substation and LV panel but these were some 50 metres apart and the only route for the LV cables between the two was across a road and then in a corridor ceiling space. Cable containment was installed and cables pulled in over a weekend period as the corridor ran through a day clinic area. No disruption to normal hospital working occurred.
Project SLAM
Project SLAM is a Ministry of Defence Prime Contract to modernise the single living accommodation on the MoD estate throughout the UK. An audited supply chain has been set up by Lorne Stewart Plc for the supply of equipment and services and Power Services were pleased to be the only provider of HV and LV services on this very important project. Work on the first site on this ongoing project commenced in 2003 and Phase 2 was signed off in early 2007 which is for another 5 years.
HM Prisons Albany & Camp Hill
HM Prison Service had a requirement to upgrade the electrical infrastructure at these two adjacent prisons which involved replacing the LV standby generator and main LV distribution panel at each location. In addition to the electrical element, our works also included all civil works and the construction of a new LV switchroom building at Camp Hill. Generators and LV panels were supplied by others but we installed and tested the LV panels, installed all generator and main supply cabling and re-routed all LV circuits to the new panels and commissioned all this in conjunction with the generator supplier. This project involved difficult working conditions with regard to security and supply shutdowns and despite these challenges, the project was completed as required with no compromise to prison security.
Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust
We have undertaken two significant projects at SUHT, the first being to change 3 transformers, install cable containment and HV and LV cable alterations in the Path Lab Substation. The second was to install new HV switchgear, make alterations to HV ring cables and install LV cables between the new LV main panel and the existing panel for the new Cardiac Unit. Both of these projects involved close liaison requirements.
Royal Marines, Poole
The base was constructing new buildings and needed to upgrade the electricity network to provide supplies to these buildings. The project required the installation of a new GRP enclosed substation, generator with acoustic housing and fuel storage system and HV and LV network alterations. In addition to carrying out the electrical installation work we also undertook all the civil works and responded to problems encountered on site with regard to existing unknown services.
Associated British Ports, Southampton
We have undertaken many projects for ABP, some of a very minor nature such as cable damage repairs, service alterations etc and some a bit more involved. The most recent was the replacement of HV switchgear and transformers in 201 and 204 Berth Substations. This turned out to be a relatively straightforward project but included the disposal of PCB contaminated oil from the oil transformers. Power Services undertook all the arrangements for this.
Hanson Aggregates
In addition to undertaking HV maintenance and inspection on many Hanson sites, we have also carried out HV network alterations which usually include the installation of substations and HV cabling. On all the sites worked on we have undertaken the duties of Senior Authorised Person (switching, proving dead, issue of safety documentation etc) thus providing Hanson with a complete service package.
ASDA Stores
We have worked in many stores throughout the UK on supply upgrade projects, usually from LV to HV. These projects require particular attention to detail and regard to liaison with the client and DNO, programming of work, shutdown arrangements and provision of temporary generators. Shutdowns are always carried out during shop closing hours and have to be completed within the agreed timescale. The only way this can be achieved is by extremely well managed projects carried out by experienced Project Managers.
MOD Portsmouth Naval Base
We have undertaken many projects for BAE Systems in Portsmouth Naval Base, from installing a new 33/11kV Brush Transformer including the cable diversion and upgrading of the protection to the Micom equivalent to installing Several 11kV Eclipse Switchboards and replacing old Low voltage switchboards with updated Schneider equivalents. We have also undertaken PCB sampling of over 100 transformers on site and have undertaken emergency works for the customer to ensure manufacturing downtime was kept to a minimum during an electrical failure of a transformer.
MOD Prime Contracts
We are currently on the approved supplier lists for the South West (Debut SW), South East (PriDE), Central (Carillion Enterprise), Allenby Connaught (Aspire), Army Training Estate (Landmarc) prime contracts, Galliford Try, BAE Systems and Amey Defence.
